Adoption Information
Recently we had the wonderful privilege of attending a seminar in Lancaster County, PA, to learn more about adoption and how to train others on adoption. The speakers was Anne Pierson of Loving and Caring Ministries in Lancaster. Following are a few of her insightful comments:
Only the strongest choose adoption. It is a difficult decision and one of great love and wanting the best for their child.
552,000 children are in the welfare system and only 7% will get out of the system by adoption. It may be that we are not presenting adoption properly or even mentioning it at all.
In 1950, 60% of women placed their babies for adoption. In 1972 that number dropped to 18%. Presently only 3% of women place their babies for adoption.
Several adoptions can be found in the Bible - Moses, Samuel, Esther, Paul, and even Jesus.
Adoption is not a breaking of a trust, but a keeping of the faith. It is not an act of defense, it is an act of redemption. It is not the abandonment of a baby, but an abandonment of self.
Women who choose adoption are more than heroes, they are loving others!
